Playing a Steinway

Updated: Dec 9, 2021

Recently, I had the privilege of playing one of my favourite pianos: a Steinway Model D, in Hall One at Sage Gateshead.

I have played the Steinway at Sage Gateshead twice before and was very excited to play it again. Playing a Steinway Model D is a truly unique experience, and the piano in Hall One is absolutely beautiful; it sounds wonderful – warm, and endlessly expressive – and is remarkably responsive. It’s a joy to play.

Not only do I love playing the Steinway, but I also love performing in Hall One. Although it’s a big hall (with a capacity of 1,700), it has a very warm atmosphere, and is not at all intimidating. There is something about the light wood panelling, seating layout and perfect acoustics that make it an extremely inviting space to perform in. I had a fantastic evening playing a beautiful piano in a beautiful venue.

If you ever visit the North East of England, make sure you make a trip to Sage Gateshead. With a range of concerts to see, and events to take part in, it’s a wonderful place to see.
