There are so many reasons to play the piano that it was very difficult to narrow them down to a short list. However, I just managed it, and here it is – in no particular order, my top ten reasons to play the piano!
1. You can play multiple notes at the same time on the piano. This means that you can play harmony as well as melody.
2. With the piano, you don’t have to make the notes – you just have to play them. This means that you can start playing tunes that sound great straight away.
3. There is a vast wealth of piano repertoire in a variety of styles including classical, jazz and blues, to name just a few. There is a also a huge array of piano arrangements of pieces for other instruments and songs, meaning you can play pretty much anything on the piano.
4. Learning to play the piano really helps you learn about music theory and how music works.
5. Unlike with other instruments, you don’t have to carry a piano around!
6. The piano has a huge range of notes. In fact, it’s a bit like a whole orchestra in one instrument.
7. When you can play the piano, you can use it to compose your own music. Once you can play even just
a few notes, you can start composing straight away.
8. When you already play the piano, it is much easier to learn to play another instrument.
9. Pianists get many opportunities to play with other musicians. For example, they may play together in duos, play with an orchestra, play in a band, or they may accompany other instrumentalists and singers.
10. The piano is a beautiful instrument. Playing the piano can bring a lifetime of joy and creativity. Who needs a better reason than that?
Have fun learning to play the piano!
